Never Lose Hope ~ Daily Log 2/2

One of the major problems many people have on their journey to lose weight is that they get discouraged too easily.  Its easy to label yourself a failure and give up if you don't work out one day, or if you eat something you know you shouldn't have.  But that's the easy way.  Mistakes are learning experiences, and there is no need to feel guilty or ashamed over them. We all do it. The key is to wake up every morning with a fresh and optimistic outlook and get out there and do what you need to do.

Be the best you that you can possibly be.

And that brings me to the next problem.  Its easy to get discouraged if you compare yourself to others vs. your past self.  View yourself constantly getting better, and if you feel the need for comparison, look back on the person that you used to be. Others are on a completely different life path than you; they have their own difficulties, their own stories, their own genetics.  It is pointless to focus incessantly on what others have. Focus on bettering yourself!

I haven't written for a few days, and that is due in part to my own issues of feeling "lost" amongst all of my responsibilities.  Luckily, even though I haven't worked out or logged in a couple days, I have still kept up my healthy eating.  Yesterday, for instance, I brought a salad, greek yogurt, and fruit to work.  You're not always going to be perfect, but its better to focus on your strengths than your weaknesses!

Today, I didn't work out either, but I had a lot of schoolwork to catch up on and I still ate healthy.  I also get to go to The Vagina Monologues today with one of my best friends, and so it will be a good day :) I work tomorrow, but I'm hoping to wake up early enough to go to a gym class. We will see!

"What Went Well" Exercise
1.  I caught up with all of my reading for my classes so that I'll be prepared for my midterms coming up.

  • Why did this happen? I put time aside and, although I could have been out doing other things or wasting my time, I made a conscious effort to be productive.

2.  I get to see an awesome show tonight and hang out with great people.

  • Why did this happen?  I made a decision not to miss it this year, and put myself out there by organizing everything and making it happen.

3.  I got to focus a little bit on my journey of bettering myself through my studies in Positive Psychology.

  • Why did this happen? Even though I didn't have to take this class, I decided to challenge myself a bit and hoped to learn a lot from the course.  Instead of being bored with the assigned readings, I made the effort to tie the material into my own life and learn from it.
